Some people believe the "Rapture" and the "Apocalypse" will happen this weekend. What do these words mean exactly?

Who knows if REM had a specific date in mind when they sang their immortal chorus, “It’s the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine.” But according to Harold Camping, a California-based Christian radio broadcaster, May 21, 2011 will bring about a rapture that will inevitably lead to the end of the world five months later. Before you throw away your “to do” list and cancel that hair appointment, let’s take a look at some useful cataclysmic terminology.

(Learn some additional words that describe when people interpret events as signs of the end of the world, here.)

Rapture is derived from the Latin raptus meaning “to seize, carry off.” Defined as “ecstatic joy or delight; joyful ecstasy” and “the carrying of a person to another place or sphere of existence;” the latter tends to coincide with what many believe is the origin of the modern meaning behind the phrase ‘The Rapture’ -  a Biblical reference from Thessalonians 4:15-17 and the following passage:  “… and the dead in Christ shall rise first. Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.”

Armageddon is derived from the Hebrew Har Megiddon or Mount of Megiddo – a city located in central Palestine and, according to many Abrahamic religions, the site of the final battle during “end times.” The Greek translation is Harmagedōn and the Modern English variation we use today is a derivation of the Latin Armagedōn.

The doom in Doomsday is from the Old English dom meaning, “law, judgement, condemnation.” In medieval England many believed that the day of the last Christian judgment would occur once the earth reached 6,000 years old.

.  Originally, a series of “Doomsday books” signified the opposite of our apocalyptic sense of the term – a tome somewhere between a census and and a tax audit of England under William the Conqueror. The book is one of the best records of the day-to-day life in England at the time – more a celebration of mundane vitality than a chronicle of horrific ending. One of the more recent definitions of doomsday is a bit bleaker though – Doomsday is the name of an extraterrestrial monstrosity who notoriously took the life of Superman in a 1992 comic.

Many thousands of years later, some believe a biblical Doomsday is upon us once again. What do you think?

SENIOR MOMENTS: Even a modest vacation will do us all some good

New Haven Register (New Haven, CT) June 26, 2011 | Jean Cherni Even though this is a time when most of us are watching the budget, taking some kind of vacation time is a good investment in our overall well-being. With some advance planning, there are many ways to stretch those dollars. First and foremost, many coupons and good deals are only available on the Internet now, so if you have not become computer savvy as yet, enlist the help of grandchildren or a neighbor and promise yourself to sign up for a class in the fall or sooner.

When taking a trip by car, many new phones have an application for gas buddy which will alert you to the lowest gas prices in the area, wherever you drive. Another application, meal ticket, will track down reviews and coupons. Food is always a major expense so if you can possibly book a motel with a mini-kitchenette, you will be able to save on snacks, drinks and even a light meal if it has a microwave, as well.

Many motels and hotels offer a free or low-cost buffet breakfast, so with a little advance planning, you can limit eating out to one meal a day.

If you are renting a car, be sure to check what your credit card covers; many times you will not have to take the rental agency’s expensive insurance coverage. Using the Internet and sites such as Travelocity, you can save big on luxury hotels with their “Top Secret Hotels,” which supplies a list of hotels, their ratings and features. see here vera bradley coupon code

You find out which hotel after making your booking so it offers excellent savings if you can be a little adventuresome. Airline bargains are hard to find. It pays to have a credit card that rewards in air miles, especially if your schedule is flexible and you can depart and arrive on days that are not as busy.

Remember that liquids, gels and aerosols must all be in 3-ounce- or-smaller containers, all placed in a clear plastic zip-top bag that does not exceed 1 quart. Put undeveloped film in your carry on, and wear easy on-off footwear since you will need to remove your shoes. this web site vera bradley coupon code

You should have your boarding pass, federal or state government issued photo ID, and passport (if required) in hand or easily accessible. My personal favorite for airline travel is a Vera Bradley handbag. The quilt fabric is lightweight and the many compartments are ideal to keep everything handy.

After an unhappy incident in Morocco, I now always bring an antibiotic prescribed by my physician to combat severe diarrhea, as well as a decongestant, antimotion sickness pills and some hydro- cortisone cream in the carry on.

Now is also the time to book a money-saving repositioning cruise for late fall. You will spend more time relaxing on the water as they visit fewer ports, but the price per day is a real bargain, and they usually have great entertainment. Lindale Travel specializes in repositioning cruises. Call 1-800-269-7836 or check with your own travel expert.

Lastly, if you can’t go very far, our own state as well as Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Vermont and New Hampshire offer unlimited possibilities. Each state has a web site and will also send excellent travel guides upon request. Your local automobile club also has a vast supply of guides.

Happy vacationing!

well, i think that SOMETHING will happen tomorrow, but it will probably be another sinkhole or earthquake, then, 18 months later (five months, go to November. skip to December and add a year.) this so called “apocalypse” will probably be more earthquakes, acid rain and sinkholes. This will be caused by the alignment of the planets in a way that it connects to the sun. This happens what, every few millenia? It’s not that big of a deal.

I’ll believe it when I see it, I definitely don’t believe it, no one can predict the future, no has the ability to do so. The world is not going to end, people are dumb.

The word ‘Apocalypse’ is used in the wrong way many times. It’s always related with destruction, Doomsday, etc. when the meaning of this Greek word is ‘Revelation’. In the bible, the apostle John had an Apocalypse (revelation) of the feature.

Oh goody, I’ll be at Kennywood when the world ends.

“The end of the world!” Was supposed to happen on many different dates, various in which I myself conclude that scientists don’t truly know when the end of us all will happen, nor what will kill us. The human population has been here for more than hundreds of years, and until society crashes upon itself, our population stands strong. Saturday will go on as a normal day, and no one will die.

These people who believe that this rapture will take place on May 21st, are sincerely deceived and do not know Scriptural prophecy. Do numbers have a play in this area? Yes of course…Right from the beginning of time, the Originator of the Heavens and earth set the blueprint of time with the 7 day Creation week. This first 7 days of time, prophetically also represents a 7 thousand year time period; with each day for a thousand years. With that being said, the universe itself can be no older than 7000 years. The truth is, 6 days have already past within this 7000 year time period; which means the earth itself is only a little over 6000 years old…6211 years old to be exact from the beginning. So we are right in the end of the week or week’s end so to speak…..the beginning of the end…..

Scriptures testify that many signs and wonders in the earth and heaven will take place before The Almighty Himself comes down with judgment…..Scenes so horriying, not even Hollywood can fathom to put into our minds what will take place….

We are in the beginning stages of the end, and things are only going to intensify as time draws near….Lucifer and his demons know their time is almost expired…….so we should not be suprised that Evil in the earth will only increase….

The best thing a human being can do right now while they are living, is get your life right with your Maker and change your ways to His ways…and believe in Him that can save your life from the Wrath to come upon mankind……because the truth is, when that day does come, the world is gonna get caught off guard; and they’re going to be ashamed and want to hide themselves from His face when he returns…but they will not be able to…

Peace

But of course, that won’t matter much,

Sad to think that there are people who don’t believe one word of the Bible-who believe that this life is all there is and that the world won’t end one day as promised. No-one will be sorrier than God

Robert Kirkham on May 20, 2011 at 5:54 pm

First of all, before we start on a Bible thumping extravaganza it’s in Mark 13:32 where it says, “But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.” Matthew 24:36 states essentially the same thing but leaves out “neither the Son.” Interesting. My point is the words are spoken in the present tense. They don’t say that no man will knoweth but that no man knoweth. That means at the present time. And at that present time there was no Bible. There is a Bible today and that’s what Harold Camping used to make his predictions. He did it all based on the mathematics in the Bible. I’m not saying he’s right. I’m only saying he has a valid argument and we shouldn’t be too quick to judge other’s beliefs. After all, it’s also in the Bible to “Judge not, that ye be not judged” Matthew 7:1-3. Anyway, to bring myself to honest perspective to others, if the world does end tomorrow, one of my major regrets is that I never got a chance to date Jennifer Lopez.

Why do we give obviously deranged people so much publicity? I left the Bible scene 35 years ago and my life improved tremendously. I do understand the need of people in general and I think religions really want to help. Why then the dishonesty and power seeking? The example attributed to Jesus lightened my young years, like father Christmas did and here even the truth that dawned on me probably at age 6, did not spoil one of my feasts. Truth is not an emotion, it is empirical knowledge.Belief is only a function of not knowing

The world may still be here on May 22nd, but you may not… One day (none of us knows the day or the hour) we will each stand before God to give an account of the life that we have lived on this earth… Are you ready?
“So you will be saved, if you honestly say, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and if you believe with all your heart that God raised him from death.” (Rom 10:9 CEV)

DavidOfIdaho on May 20, 2011 at 8:26 pm

@Robert Kirkham: That’s a very interesting distinction. However, Matthew says “… but my Father only,” indicating that He, Jesus, doesn’t know either. But, in the Doctrine and Covenants, a book of modern day scripture used by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (aka Mormons), section 133 verse 11 says “for ye know neither the day nor the hour,” which presents that distinction. We believe that Christ, during the three days between death and resurrection, was with the Father and preaching among the dead. It is very possible that during that period He was told by the Father, and now knows.
Also, regarding end-of-the-world predictions, there are countless signs prophesied of that will happen before the end which have not happened yet. Just to name one, in Rev. 11: 3-11, we read about two witnesses (presumably witnesses of Christ, indicating prophets, missionaries, etc.) who preach in Jerusalem about 3.5 yrs, are killed, and then are risen from the dead 3.5 days later. I think we’d know about it if that had happened.
lastly, @Ashok Kumar, it is Latter-Day Saint belief that the Apocalypse, or Second Coming of Christ, will be a happy time for the righteous and faithful. The wicked will be destroyed, and an “age of ‘pure life’” will ensue, lasting for about 100 yrs, in which Satan will be bound and will have no power on the earth.

This world will not end. The end that the Bible talks about is related to this system of things (i.e. the world governments). The world governments will be brought down and God’s government, headed by Jesus Christ, enthroned. This is clearly stated in Daniel 2:44. When this system of things ends as we know it then, a new heaven and a new earth based on truth and justice would have been created. However, the new government will be not be enjoyed by everyone. Only those who have remained obedient to God, through thick and thin, will live to enjoy the new government as examplified by Jesus Christ in His crucifixion. This means that the entire world, rather than having national governments, will have one government headed by God, This type of government is called theocracy.

Concerning the knowledge of the day and hour that the end of this system of things will take place, we must note that Jesus Christ specifically said that no one knows the day and hour. Although, Jesus spoke in the present then, we must understand that his point was that such knowledge was the prerogative of the Almighty God. The foregoing has been proven true by the numerous human predictions that have turned out to be false. So, it is important to leave that which belongs to God to Him and do that which He has commissioned us to do.

Kevin on May 20, 2011 at 9:29 pm

He was wrong once, and so he will be wrong again. He’s a false prophet.

Alaina Hutton on May 20, 2011 at 9:46 pm

I truly think this whole thing is a complete hoax. It’s just some guy trying to bring attention to himself. I mean the world could end tomorrow, no one knows, only God knows the exact time. But really, this whole “End of the World” thing is going waaaay over the top. I mean, we all survived 11-11-11, 2000, a few weeks ago thing, and we will all survive May 21st, 2011, along with 2012. I can’t believe that people actually believe that this sort of stuff will happen because some guy they can’t even see or even know, predicts it…. :/

Ski Fast! on May 21, 2011 at 5:17 am

People who read their Bible for all that it is worth should quickly realize that it is impossible for anyone to pinpoint the time of the return of Jesus. It’s really not that difficult to understand this from a simple reading of the New Testament.

This kinda reminds me of Y2K… Nothing happened though

jhe on May 21, 2011 at 5:27 am

God is actually coming soon. Matthew 7: 1, ” Thou shall not be judged, so God will not judge you..” Whoever predicted the Rapture today, we can’t blame him because he is basing mathematically from the beginning of the earth until this recent times. There’s just one thing we need to remember that “God is coming so soon” to fulfill His promises, eternal life for His followers and eternal life also for those who didn’t follow Him truly…Hold your FAITH for God and don’t be deceived..If the world will end tomorrow then I would be grateful and happy so I can’t experience anymore hurts and pains..To God be the glory!!!

Deedeedinah on May 21, 2011 at 6:00 am

When and if it happens, it won’t matter one bit. We can’t do anything about it, we can’t change it, we can only hope it’s quick and painless so we don’t have to worry about the people we love suffering.

As an aside, can I just tell you that over the last two days I’ve had a stack of duffle bags that have been sitting in the same spot for three years just fall over, and sometime during the night, an old photograph of my home that has been hanging on the kitchen wall for 20 years just fell off and broke.

There was no reason for either.

Oh, and my little dog keeps barking at nothing.

Maybe he senses little “shifts” that are causing things to fall?

Yikes!~

Jeffrey on May 21, 2011 at 6:05 am

Let’s take a little closer look at this issue. GOD has given us all gifts, some to see, some to predict, and some to question. Let’s look at what is going on. The moral compose has gone to bad. People treat each other like something stuck to their feet. Weather has gotten extreme, war is everywhere? In countries and in the streets. There will be an event in 2012, will it be the end? I believe that it will be an eye opening event that will change everyone’s life. Will it be death and destruction? Or will it be events that will bring us all back to Jesus. All the prophets’ predictions stop on December 21, 2012. Perhaps GOD would not let them see beyond that date. Maybe there was nothing to see, or maybe it is the start of a new time. Something that as humans can’t comprehend, And won’t be able to understand until it happens. Research 2012 and you will find a lot of interesting facts. Like why are all the Government’s in the world building a underground shelter in New Zealand and selling lottery tickets?
Think about this: with the way the weather conditions are at present, with all the natural disasters that are going on, and a planetary alignment in our future. What effects will we experience with the gravitational pull? Are we just seeing the beginning of what is yet to come? Each and every one of us has to make our own choice as to what we believe and what we don’t believe. Would you believe something someone told you at face value, or would you check it out and look at the facts. Research it and make your conclusions on facts and not fiction.

Realist on May 21, 2011 at 6:06 am

Seriously, if the world will end, then that is what it was meant to be. There will be no aftermath of the end of the world and there will be no survivors if the WORLD ends. There is nothing to be afraid of- besides idiot people who predict the end of the world and scare us all. It’s 8:04 AM on Saturday, and the most un-happiest thing that has happened is that it has rained here in Minnesota- will the world end because today is any other normal day? I think not.

joel frost on May 21, 2011 at 6:08 am

selenagomezrocks on May 21, 2011 at 6:19 am

This is SO NOT TRUE!!!!!!!! Don’t you people read the bible? Only God knows when the rapture will come!

Realist on May 21, 2011 at 6:24 am

Plenty of us think not- and the people in China, the day is almost over for you guys, flesh eating zombies would be on the news. They said the world would end in 2000- I’d only be 1 year old then, guess what, we all lived another 11 years. Let this failed end of the world prediction and all the others show us that 2012 IS NOT HAPPENING. And of course when we find another stupid reason to predict the world ending- that is not happening either. I don’t need bible excerpts to figure this out. It’s just common sense- you guys who show those excerpts only prolong our fear.

Maggie on May 21, 2011 at 6:38 am

This particular rapture is actually an April Fools day joke gone wrong. A British newspaper printed something about the newly discovered Elenin comet causing the end of the world the following year (i.e. 2011). A Latin American journalist picked it up, and because their April Fools equivalent is in December he didn’t get it and thought it was a real report. It quickly spread around the internet and now is being connected to an alien invasion conspiracy (as you would expect lol). The astronomer Leonid Elenin, who discovered the comet, says the only significant thing about the comet is the fact that it’s the first one to be discovered by a Russian astronomer in 20 years!
The Mayan calender says the world will end next year due to natural disasters of apocalyptic proportions but tbh with the way we’re treating our environment coupled with cyclical natural anomalies in weather patterns etc. this might just come true (but for scientific, natural and logical reasons and not because of some mystic baloney).
You can check out the story in some news reports on RT.com :)

Ascending on May 21, 2011 at 7:42 am

The world will not end in 2012. This date simply marks the endings of many cycles of time which coincide with eachother. As a result, we as humans have an opportunity to transcend the five dimensions we live in
(length, width, depth, time, consciousness), and exist in six dimensions. Time is a fractal pattern. Our history is a fragment of cosmic deep time. God is the whole universe, and every vibration, and every perception. He is not a personified creator; He is a continuum. We humans have divine potential; we can only realise it with the right decisions, which sadly, most of us do not make.

David on May 21, 2011 at 7:47 am

Oooh, there’s nothing like a bit of false prophesy from a false prophet! Harold Camping is one of the many false prophets on our planet right now :) This is Harold’s second false prophesy … he originally had the date as 6 September 1994 …. seventeen years later …. he’s at it again! :(

By the way: 21/12/2012 is NOT the end … the Mayan Calendar restarts, like it has on many occasions. A lot of people have taken the 2012 movie a bit too seriously …

We really should judge the guy for believing what he wants to believe. I know he judges the ‘non-believers’ but let them do what they want to do. Because like the old cliche goes “you’re only stooping down to their level.” At the same time, I’m not saying the guy is wrong. He may just very well be right…then what? We all feel like morons? It’s either us or them, you know? I don’t know what everyone is trying to prove when they say they are going to be happy and excited if and when the guy turns out to be wrong again…because you honestly do not know any more than he does. Just leave it alone. Please.

We spend so much time trying to figure out when the world will end that we don’t have to time to tell the Good News. The end of the world should be the last thing we are thinking about! There are people who need God. Personally, whenever Jesus comes back, I want to be doing what He called me to do or leading someone to the Lord… Not standing at some rally waiting for the world to end.
They did this back in Bible times, too. When Jesus went back up to Heaven, and He told everyone He would come back one day soon, the people went and sat on their roofs waiting for Him to come back. They were so sure that He would be back in just a couple of days…

Billy on May 21, 2011 at 8:33 am

understand that the SON does not know the exact date on which the following prophesy will occur—”only the FATHER”. so, anyone who claims to know the exact date has been misled.

yes, HE will come to snatch up all who are “in CHRIST”, but first all who have passed away. “After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the LORD in the air. And so we will be with the LORD forever.”(1Th 4:16-17 NIV)

so that you will not be misled today, study the word of GOD today.(Mat 24:36; Mar 13:32) GOD loves you.

LFG on May 21, 2011 at 9:21 am

You know how many times the Bible could have been changed…religion is just something created so people can have a faith…and not worry about things. And since this “Bible” and this religion is pretty popular people believe it. What do other religions say??? We can’t rely on one source for the end of the world. Because the people changed the laws of the church to manipulate what they wanted….which was money and power. The world is slowly dying, and its not cuz some religion thing, its because we are ruining it ourselves. We have no one to blame but ourselves…and yea there is scientific stuff about the alignment of the earth…did you hear about us getting another sun? I read an article about it…so IDK? I don’t want to believe it. But everyone’s gotta die someday right?

clark on May 21, 2011 at 9:28 am

Well, so far, nothing happening.

KansasRoots on May 21, 2011 at 10:49 am

I’m not taking time to read all the comments cause there’s so many…but I have to say, if you are a TRUE and LOYAL Follower of God AND you have read the Bible, then you would realize that NO ONE…. hear me? N.O. O.N.E. CAN predict the end as we know it. In the Bible there are numerous accounts of “the end” where it is said no one will know.

Revolation chapter 3 verse 3: “Go back to what you heard and believed at first; hold to it firmly and turn to me again. Unless you do, I will come upon you suddenly, as unexpected as a thief.” Here, he advises us to go back to what we originally heard and believed about Him and his Good word… if the church doesn’t, he will come like a thief, and how unexpectable they are!

Another example: Revolation chapter 16, verse 15: “Take note; I will come as unexpectedly as a thief! Blessed are all who are watching for me, who keep their robes ready so they will not need to walk naked and ashamed.”

Again, you can’t expect a thief to come at a specific time. You can’t predict it either. But as Jesus says, we are blessed to be ready with our robes so that we may not walk naked when the time comes. Now, the difference in being ready, and parinoid has a fine line. Everyone packing food and water away, warning people about “the end” by scaring everyone is something an unknowledgeable person would be declairing.

The end is going to be beautiful in so many ways. We (believers) will not die and be forgotten we won’t have to endure those things that the others will. AND! Our God is so gracious and merciful that if you were not the one’s to vanish before the end started, then you DO get another chance to surrender your life to Christ and be loved by him.

When someone says “The end is here” I feel sad but also laugh because No one knows the day or hour for which our Father will come. Please, do yourselves all a favor. DOn’t take someone’s word for it about anything concerning God, sins, salvation, surrendering, or anything related to those things. READ ABOUT IT!!! :D Everything you need to know is in the Bible. I suggest the King James version because it is the very very very very closest translation from the original Hebrew bible to English and it will be the most accurate. The King James Holy Bible won’t filled with opinionated manipulations of the bible verses like all the rest thereafter the King James Version.

Believe me when I tell you, I was not always a good christian (even still, I have things to learn). I was a horrible person, one who looked at death and laughed. “This is my life, I only get one so I’ll do whatever I want.” I was so stupid and nieve. I believed there was God, but I didn’t want to surrender myself to him. Lucifer had a tight grip on me. I was a sinner…. still am a sinner too. The difference between now and then, is that now; I know what I should and should not do, I try to do the right things. Now; I am God’s child and I am forgiven for my sins. Lucifer can slither back to the darkness he came from! It’s been a great journey, I look forward to the future of the journey as well! I hope you all join me, beacuse Gods Kingdom is Waiting for us and the best part… IT’S FREE!!! Revelation chaper 22, verse 17: The spirit and the bride (Gods children) say “Come.” Let each one who hears them say, “Come.” Let the thirsty ones come–anyone who wants to. Let them come and drink the water of life without charge.
As Jesus said to his disiples, He (Jesus) is going to prepare a place for us in heaven!!

A good christian doesn’t want to force any religion/belief system upon you, we relay these messages because we want everyone to be able to live for eternity. You have everything you could ever want in Heaven!!! What a better way to have Eternal Life!!! I know when I get there, I’m getting a farm FULL of horses! Every evening the sunset will be more beautiful than the last and the smell of fresh milo and wildflowers growing in surrounding fields will be constant on the breeze! What will you do when you get to Heaven?

One Last thing, Very related to certain people claiming they know of “the end” Jesus has words we all should listen to. Matthew 24, verses 23-26: *Jesus speaking* 23) “Then if anyone tells you, ‘Look, there is teh Messiah.’ or ‘There he is,’ don’t pay any attention. 24) For false messiahs and false prophets will rise up and perform great miraculous signs and wonders so as to decieve, if possible, even God’s chosen ones. 25) See, I have warned you. 26) So if someone tells you, ‘Look, the Messiah is out in the desert.’ don’t bother to go and look. Or, ‘Look he is hiding here,’ don’t believe it!

God Bless and Love all <3 Kansas Roots

It’s definitely not going to happen today. The Bible says in Matthew 24:36, “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.” No one knows when Jesus will come. Not even Jesus Himself. He will come when the Father sends Him back. (And, honestly, that man that is “predicting the end” has predicted five times already! Just tell him to give up!)

Also, for those of you that think that the world will end in 2012 because that’s when the Mayan calender ends, I’ve got some news for you. The Mayans have another calender! But, of course, Hollywood wants to make “cool” movies so they don’t mention that. :)

Why does everyone “forget” Matthew 24:34? “Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place” This is also echoed in Luke 21:32 nearly verbatim. So Jesus said “No one can know when it will happen — but I’ll give you a hint: It will happen before everyone who is alive today has died.”

So all we need to do is find everyone alive today who was around then, and see how close they are to dying …

Job chapter 26, verse 7God stretches the northern sky over empty space and hangs the earth on nothing.
Above you see how Job mentions to Bildad that God has suspended the earth on nothing at all. Now, how is anyone going to know that with out a something or someone going out into space to look at earth? God of course!

Wow. It’s very difficult for me to see anyone truly believing that something’s going to happen unless they’re sick in the head. As long as I’ve been alive, people have said that the world was going to end several times. Some people make a huge deal out of it and then what happens? Nothing. You think these people would see the pattern here and say, “Wow, this is stupid.”

And, I love how many religious hypocrites there are in the world. It says right in the bible that the only being that knows the exact date of the end of time is God. If this Harold Camping guy had ever really picked up a bible in his life, he would know that he and the little hypocrite-hole of so-called “Christians” with which he attends church every week are dead wrong and foolish. On the terms of sin, I believe this is what you would call fraud, false prophecy. It may not be that big of a deal, but I hope people that go around like this, telling others that the world is going to end and getting children and others that aren’t wise enough to see past the lies upset meet a horrible and fitting judgement. If you claim to be a Christian, but ignore the fact that the truth to your lie is printed out in black and white, then Hell needs to open up a space for you. I can’t describe how much this annoys me. This is the reason I stopped going to church. Everyone there was exactly like this. There’s no wonder so many people are atheists these days when there are these hypocrites giving their religion a bad name; and then they want to go blame music and the media and stuff for what they did to make those people turn their backs.

God, people kill me. x__x

@someone
I believe that the Word teaches truth, and that it is not hidden, but has an inner meaning. The when you read the Word “decoded”, if you will, then it applies to all aspects of life and does not contradict itself. One thing to see is that the people in the time of the Old Testament were far less developed mentally they were when Revelation was written. They were to take the Word of the Lord literally, and so He told them plainly that he would never smite the earth again. Much, much, much later people started to have the ability to understand the inner truths of the Word. Thus Revelation was written. It brought a new meaning to people and those who can read it in a different mindset than they read the book of Genesis can see another idea there. When He says that the world has passed away and been replaced by a new Heaven and a new earth, He means that people have passed into a new spiritual state and are living with more understanding. Instead of being a prophecy about the physical deaths of people, He speaks of the gradual bringing about of a new understanding. It is not an instantaneous process, but it could already have happened. In fact, I believe it has, but it’s up to you to decide that. So the Lord caters to every mindset and no one is left permanently in the dark.

@Kevin
I was wrong once. Then I was right. Then I was wrong again. And again. And then I was right three times. Then I was wrong a bunch of times, but right the very next hour. Then I was wrong. Will I be wrong next time?

@millionairemoneybags
Everybody has false beliefs and assumptions. Believing in something strongly does not make you a nut-job. I promise to never wish you would commit suicide just because I don’t believe you should wish that on others. They may be proven wrong. Are they therefore bad for the other people? If you had raised a family, found a faith and believed strongly in it because you wanted to do what was right, and done your best to be good to others, would you think you deserved to kill yourself. I will try my best not to make judgments about your character, seeing as I am not you, or God. I do have a hard time often keeping my self from making judgments. Everyone has a hard time with something. But just because I’m often prejudiced about little things as part of my nature, I am not a nut-job, and nor are you.

victor on May 21, 2011 at 2:55 pm

Why do we need to laugh that the end of the world is near?
We really do not know when will be the end of the world. No man knows about it. Only God knows.
But the Bible clearly says that the world will end and Christians will be saved and non-Christians will be punished.
So what should we do? Are we ready? Are you scared?
Jesus comforts all Christians, “…do not be alarmed…”(1 Thessalonians 5:4-9).
Are you prepared? Are you an atheist?
Repent and believe and receive Jesus(John 1:12 & Acts 4:12) before time runs out.

and guess what?
bibles are written by PEOPLE!
Jesus lived at the Roman ages,
and he is a philosopher who wrote the bible and people worshipped him.
i don’t know how all this goes,
from a person who wrote the bible to GOD.
but this is all twisted thoughts.
because the bible had been edit at least million times.
and guess what the introduction of the first bible said?
(i will summarize it, since it’s so long)
that if ANYONE ever edit or damage the bible, that person will suffer in hell for ETERNITY!
well
look how many people edit it?
do we have to call them god too?
look at people who wrote the hymn
do we call them god, too.
then
gues what
those GODS have companies and workers who printed the bible for them.
if we call a person GOD just because he wrote or edit the bible or the hymn, then there are already millions of gods on Earth, dead or alive.

Guillermo on May 21, 2011 at 9:23 pm

I think death is part of living. First off, why should anyone fear death? Like life, it’s also a beautiful thing. It’s the end of a cycle. I believe people should recognize that we are all humans on this earth, and we should not see the meaningless differences in culture, language and religious belief, but rather concentrate on the more important things such as cohesion, universal brotherhood and progress as a human race. “Armageddon” and “Doomsday” is such propaganda in today’s society. Why does “the end of the world” have to be so explosive and tragic like many religious depict it as. Why not see it as a worldly change to birthing consciousness in the world. I believe the reason why this world is seeing so many hate and violence, is because we’ve advanced faster than we can advance spiritually. However, we are coming to a time where more and more people will being to realize that we’re being so selfish amongst ourselves and within our planet, that slowly, the tide of awareness will shift. And with consciousness comes responsibility. A metaphor I read by Sai Baba says something like: “The reason why there is so much corruption, hate, racism, violence etc in today’s world is simple. Think of a garage full of junk sitting in the dark. Once you begin to place lights in the room, you begin to realize how messy and how disorganized your garage is! Dirt, dust and chaos everywhere. The more light, the more one sees a need to organize and clean.”

That’s what I believe this world is coming to. We are now demanding institutions increasing levels of transparency, we are finally agreeing, although still slowly, that we need to change the way we exploit finite resources, realizing that wars and genocides due to differences in religion and culture/language/color/etc etc are pointless, barbaric and ape-like should begin to be dealt with at a more reasonable, conscious, diplomatic and humanistic level. So, returning to the topic of “Armageddon” and “Doomsday”, No, this world will not catastrophically end. Although, it is possible that we will create our own Armageddon if we are not careful on how we use our human consciousness and intelligence. Those are the key words, though. We need to “end this world”, meaning change our course of actions in all our approaches.

Truthfully I don’t believe in the end of the world. I don’t have or need religion to lead my life for me. What may cause a lot of talk about the end of the world is when a lot of people think their lives are falling and shattering into little pieces. I say we should stop looking into the past and predicting what will come in the future and worry about now. What really matters here?

Doubtful Dave on May 22, 2011 at 12:10 am

Hey all you Matthew 24:36 quoting Christians! How come no one has responded to the question regarding Matthew 24:34?

Even though Jesus clearly said in Matthew 24:36 (and other places) that no one but God knew exactly when the End would be, he also said that it would happen in *that* generation: “Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place” Do you pick and choose which verses are Truth and which ones should just be skimmed and forgotten? If so, how do I know which are which?

Help me out here, please!

HI! I think that WHEN people are brought down in the dirt, because of Islam hating Jews, and Xians hating everyone that isnt doing what they DONT EVEN DO THEMSELVES …

THEN AND ONLY THEN, when people are at the bottom, they will realize that in order to survive, they have to get rid of the ‘teddy bear monster of love and hate’ in heaven (lalaland), and begin to take care of themselves and their OWN families. …
They will have to make their own way. The child must grow up, face the dark and the light, and learn the wisdom of living for him/her self.

What fools these mortals be to destroy their own and only place of life, the EARTH, for some fear of fight for a ‘god’ who never is was or can ever be. EVOLUTION please!!!….grow up, fools….the RIGHTEOUS AND HOLY WILL BE KILLING US ALL!

This is true Christians believe in the rapture but the Bible also says no man knoweth the day or hour when the rapture will take place Mark 24:36.
“But of that day and hour knoweth no [man], no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.” You can’t say this day that a man predicted was a christian/biblical doomsday belief because all the christians followers of Jesus and keepers of his commandments knew that this man prohecy wasnt real. But rest assure God is soon to come for those that believe and follow him.

This current prediction is an American fascination with end o’ days initiated by those who are a follower of the great PT Barnum ’There’s a sucker born every minute.’ The Rapture is a misunderstanding of a metaphor used by Paul 2000 years ago!

this is crazy

Kelly on May 22, 2011 at 7:58 pm

The BIble says that nobody knows when it’ll happen, so why are all these goofballs stating they know when it will be? Perhaps it is to dull human minds so much that when it does happen, it’ll be blamed on UFO’s or something lame like that.

crimadram on May 22, 2011 at 11:45 pm

There is something called religious delusion.

chip on May 23, 2011 at 6:36 am

I am so tired of the zealots who subscribe to different shades of world’s greatest competing fairy tales, trying to steer the future of man and the future of life on this planet in a direction that justifies their particular brand of antiquated thinking: even if it means ending life. Yes, we have many things to worry about, mostly stemming from our own hubris and ignorance, but the whimsy and furor of some giant man in the sky is not one of them.

Whether a man might “knoweth” or not is scarcely the point. One can have quiet faith or not, but if we are honest with ourselves (and discard its superficial social and communal comforts) we realize that the belief systems associated with religion are for children and adults who think like children; praise and condemnation appeal to those parts of our psyche, which fuels our misguided attempts in seeking the reward of salvation from our “maker”. Really, such behavior is something like groupie’s mentality. As though quoting scriptures will put one in good stead when “the day” comes: “I’m your biggest fan”; “I’ve read all your books”; “Did you hear when I was telling all these blasphemers that you’d be coming?” Being more fearful and aggressive is not being a better person.

Nothing is more annoying and frightening than somebody claiming to know a god’s true intentions and then acting on their imagined Lord’s behalf to gain favor. Please, shut the hell up and do something more constructive in the service of the tangible truths: the real suffering and devastation that is part of our present day life on earth.

I will tell you what it means, although the time has passed as I knew it would. It means that some people are just uneducated and that the Bible talks of the Rapture in detail. Go to Thessalonians l and ll, Mathew 24, Revelations if you dare, Daniel and Ezekial in Old Testament. Study it because in Matthew Jesus says no man knows the day nor the hour, not even him, but the father which is God. If you really want to know go and read it for yourselves. The bottom line to all this is yes, it is reaaaalllll and yes it will come but only when it is time.

Greg on May 23, 2011 at 8:42 am

I give my G.I. Joes to any remaining boys on my block. I give my swimming pool to whoever wants to clean it. I leave my motocycle to somebody who can fix it. I leave my house to any squatter that squats on it. My cars can go to my mechanic…he has them more than I do anyway. I’ll take all my bad habits, wouldn’t want to ruin somebody with those. My Peanuts collection…well, that’s going with me! Oh, all the cockroaches can go to PETA. If they aren’t protecting them now they will be soon. This is Greggie signing off!

@David: Uhmm.. There were no zombies on CoD: Modern Warfare 2.
Black Ops & World At War, yes. But definitly not CoD: MW2.

Either way, I believe that whatever happens, happens. You can’t stop it. It’ll just happen anyway. So, it’s better to deal with it, than to complain about it. Right?

Dying is a part of life, and we just have to get over the fact. (:
I’m not one for religion or even mathematical numbers like what people have been stating. And such as the dates given like, Y2K and whatnot.

But, if we die, we die. Nothing we can do to stop it.

So, from Alaska; It’s the 23rd and we are all just fine. ;) <3
This is just my opinion though, didn't mean to cause an uproar if I did.

Moondancer on May 23, 2011 at 12:55 pm

I have seen the rapture, and its name is champagne truffles!

KansasRoots on May 23, 2011 at 1:43 pm

@WHY DO YOU CARE, The bible is not to be tampered, which is why I take MOST of it seriously. I was speaking with my parents last night about the God, the Bible, and the associated subjects when my father reminded me that in translation, things DO get lost. But like I said before, the King James Bible is the closest to the original language the Bible was written in. I don’t doubt that there is missing or changed information. But I remember Christ and his Father for their main purpose; God loved, so what do you do when you love someone? You SHOW them how much you loved them.. therefore he created the earth and all that dwells in it. I have no doubt that the Bible has changed. These versions that were created AFTER the King James Bible HAVE been altered. THEY EVEN HAVE A COPYRIGHT!!! YOU CAN’T DO THAT! It’s satan doing his work. There’s books missing from the modern bible.

There is alot in the bible you can critize, but it takes FAITH to act on what you believe and what you feel is the right way. You get up out of bed each day without wondering “Do my legs and muscles work today?” because you have FAITH that they do. from dictionary.com: FAITH
–noun
1. confidence or trust in a person or thing: faith in another’s ability.
2. belief that is not based on proof: He had faith that the hypothesis would be substantiated by fact.
3. belief in god or in the doctrines or teachings of religion: the firm faith of the Pilgrims.

I love my creator, he cares for every last creature down here in this wasteland…even this guy claiming to know that YESTERDAY was the rapture lol! Once you get to know him, you’ll see that God is so great, I have so much more to learn! If/when you read the bible, take it all with a small grain of sand and sugar. You will find that there is much more knowledge in there than anyone can possilby know on their own.

God Bless <3KansasRoots

Hey Kansas, you’ve been had. Take those messages of love and compassion and hold them close, every day, and exercise them as often as possible. Help those who need help, and shame those who need that.

But know that it is you, not God, that has that power. You have given it to yourself, and you’ll find in time that there’s so much more. Perhaps the bible is a doorway, but it’s not the passage. YOU are the passage. But if you take that stuff literally, you will purvey the wars, fear, dread and hate all in the name of that particular love. Funny, huh? The bible was made to build armies and align efforts. The real word is in each of us, automatically, whether or not we used that book to open the door.

I survived the apocalypse!! YEAH! I’m B.A. man.

KansasRoots on May 24, 2011 at 3:03 pm

Thanks. And what I find funny is when people come here to tell me religion is not right or it’s phony, a mask, and for childlike mentality adults…are they doing anything to better the world around them? Or just using this blog thing to ‘tell’ us how things should be done.
Example: I had a broken down car on it’s last leg, it smoked a little at each take off. A girl beside me in a car as well yells out to me “Do you know what you’re doing to the environment?” I had to reply; “You drive a car as do I, do I need to state the obvious?” Her pollution was only invisable to the nakid eye, a silent criminal if you will. Mine was just visable, making me the prime suspect for the damage. The girl didn’t know how stupid she made herself sound honestly.
The point is, person A is quick to tell person B what person B is not doing right, yet it is themselves (person A) doing a dishonor as well. Don’t critize someone’s garden with a few dandelions when your own is being taken over by weeds.

don’t wait for the end of the world..worrying and feeling scared about it is an indication that you are not prepared
“change and do good, a perfect combination to prepare”

** nice comment, sarah!

Archon on May 27, 2011 at 7:26 pm

To Urg, et al;

If you paid a bit more attention, you might have noticed that it was NEVER “Science” or scientists who predicted the end of the world. It’s ALWAYS some sort of “Religious” nut!

And Camping’s prediction was merely that the “good people” to be taken to heaven and the rest of us would be later destroyed. He said nothing about zombies running loose. Even he’s not dumb enough to base his theory on some yahoo video game.

awesomness on May 28, 2011 at 4:06 am

hahahahahhahahaha you 6-day creationists are so guillible. There is no date in the bible on which that the world will end. Please, give me some verses with an exact dat e or year. Just because some acclaimed director makes a bad movie about the apacolypse doesn’t mean you can make up some random date. The 2012 isn’t real. The Myans just stopped making the calendar for it. The guy probably got to 2000 and was like, wow, lets get to 3000. but he was too bored and just decided, hey i got to 2000, im just gonna stop.

Carlitos on May 29, 2011 at 1:47 am

Kansas, what am I doing to better the world?

I pat the back of the do-gooder when I see them do good. I don’t pray to God that night, thanking Him for doing that bit of good through the person whom I saw commit the good act.

And I confront or shame the person who commits the bad deed. I don’t pray that God does my dirty work.

And I teach so that others might learn, I don’t pray that they find knowledge through God or any other idol.

And I am powerful, because I grasp my own intention and action. And I take responsibility for it personally. I don’t consider it the will or design of God; I consider it my own.

Archon on June 1, 2011 at 4:09 pm

KansasRoots; How gullibly narrow-minded to believe and claim that EVERYTHING you need to know, is in the Bible. If you tell me the names of the three wise men who visited that Christ-child, you’ve called yourself a liar. That information is not in the Bible, but is contained in other religious reference books. Books written at the same time, in the same place, by the same “divinely inspired” people and found with the rest of the dead sea scrolls, were intentionally left out of the Bible by fallible, secularly-influenced men, who did not want to include opinions which did not support their control and imposition of their ideas. Mary, mother of Christ, wrote a gospel, but it isn’t included, because the Pope and Church Leaders don’t wish to give value to women. Saint Peter wrote a gospel! Peter himself, the rock upon which the Catholic Church claims to be built, wrote a book, which the early Church leaders would not include because it did not name them as the leaders they claim to be.

It’s a nice book. It’s got some good parts. It’s got some bad parts. It’s got some parts that contradict other parts. It obviously leaves some things out. Cain slew Abel and went to a distant land and returned with a wife. If Adam and Eve and Cain and Abel were the only people God created, where did Cain get the wife, Walmart? It should begin, “Once upon a time,” like the rest of the fairy tales.

KansasRoots on June 9, 2011 at 12:24 pm

@awesomness: I don’t see where anyone says what date the end is coming ANYWHERE in the bible…. because if you’ve read the bible then you would know that it says multiple times “I will come as unexpected as a thief in the night.” It also states that “No one but the Father knows the time.” meaning no one but him… at all….I’m glad people are actually doing their research. I never once claimed to know everything and that literally everything you need to know is in the Bible. It’s a basic guide book to how to live life from dealing with pressure at highschool up to getting married back over to anxiety and depression and other things between. There’s reason books have been left out of the bible… not everything was ment for it to be published. Yes there are good and bad things and others that contradict. The bible is something to look at and learn from. I feel bad for you. I dont claim to know everything, and I’m still learning! I’m not pushing anything on anyone. Just talking about what I believe. It’s actually pretty funny if Dictionary.com thought they could publish this thing about “rapture” without hearing from all different sides of the fence.

its 2012 that it will happen…. the end of 2012… oh and 3 days into winter break

-_-this doesnt answer my question in resarch that i typed in -_- on April 1, 2012 at 2:17 pm
